My approach to therapy with children, adolescents and families is done with connection, regulation and play. Decades of research has given us powerful tools to help children through attunement and co-regulation. Children do not have all the communication tools we do as adults. Play Therapy allows kids to explore their emotions and gives kids an avenue of self-expression. With an attuned therapist creating a therapeutic relationship, the child is then able to express and process through their play. This can permit permanent, structural change in the brain. I will guide you to help co-regulate your child, so they feel empowered and more secure. We will begin addressing cognitive, behavioral, and emotional challenges as a team so you have tools for at home as well.
As children get older, it is developmentally appropriate for them to seek higher levels of autonomy. We will collaborate and consider when it is appropriate for your child or adolescent to meet individually with me.
“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.” -Fred Rogers
